"AN INCLUSIVE PLEA FOR UNDERSTANDING AND JUSTICE." THE AUSTRALIAN The audience are invited to learn Pitjantjatjara, a Central Desert language spoken by 2,500 people across the north-western parts of South Australia. In exchange, Trevor will share parts of his family story in Pitjantjatjara and in English. His father, born in the red desert sands where his people had lived for over 50,000 years, was moved off his Ngura (country) to make way for the British atomic tests at Maralinga following World War II. The production explores the effects that the Cold War and international politics had on Trevor's family living in remote central Australia. Each session is complete, though audiences are encouraged to attend all four unique sessions to learn more of the language and experience a richer and deeper understanding of Ngapartji Ngaparjti. The themes for each session are: Thursday: Anangu - The Body Friday: Walytja - Family Saturday: Tjukurpa - Law and culture Sunday: A session covering all topics and a conclusion to the week. Co-created by Spinifex man Trevor Jamieson and writer/director Scott Rankin and the team from Big hART. Audiences can continue their relationship and learning online at ninti.ngapartji.org "IT DOES HONOUR TO THE FESTIVAL THAT HAS PRESENTED IT." THE AGE Bookings and more information |
